YIPEE! I did it today! I ran 1 mile in 11 minutes. It felt so AWESOME! I realized about 3 minutes into the run, that I was just starting to breath heavy. I kept motivating music going and just kept running. When I was a .8 / mile I knew today was the day I could push myself to do it.
I'm also wearing my hubby's belt around a pair of pants to keep them up today. Much less frustrating this way ;-)

Committment = Success
One thing I've learned is that burning more calories every day than what I'm consuming means I continue to lose weight! It also means that to stay on track, I must count every day what I consume and even track what I burn - for the more I burn, the slightly more I need to consume.
To date, I have lost 17 pounds! I consume approximately 1300-1400 calories per day. I burn 1900+ calories.... depending on my exercise & daily activities. I should reach my goal weight by November.
I'm still doing Jillian Michael's 30-day Shred at least twice per week. I do Pilates once a week. I walk/run/climb on the treadmill 2-3 times per week and often add a hike with Alan too! This week I am going to make sure that on my treadmill days, I also add abs work. My abs are shrinking but I can tell it's going to take a lot of work to eliminate what I dont' want anymore.
I'm loving baked pretzels right now. 24 sticks are only 50 calories. A great carb addition when I'm looking for a crunchy/salty snack.
Here's to COMMITTMENT!

The Grind....
That's kind of how I'm thinking about my progress recently. It's become a bit more of a grind. Working out has become more of my focus.... still counting calories and staying in the lines - burning an average of 600 calories more than I'm consuming each day. My work out focus has been reflected in my March measurements..... great improvement in the lower half (waist, hips, thighs!). I saw this when I wore my "skinny jeans!" yesterday. They fit so comfortably..... I'm chasing those size 8's now!
One pound lost this past week.... I'm certainly in the zone. By Grind I don't mean this is becoming a bore or hard.... rather it's becoming "life"..... watching my intake and getting my highly desired exercise done each day and the next, and the next and then the next..... you know.... "The Grind".

Every bite costs.... exercise earns
Thus began my calorie counting.... everything into my mouth costs some amount of calories! For the first few days, I really didn't do anything other than change my portion sizes. I didn't really find healthier foods to eat. But after about 5 days, I had an intense craving for celery (of all things!). Being a grocery shopping day, I bought celery and some light cream cheese. This was the beginning of my change to healthier choices. I now eat quite 7-8 servings of veggies & fruits in one day.
About the time I was craving celery, I kept hearing the voice in the back of my head to get moving. So that day I hoped on the treadmill. I walked 30-35 min at about 3.6-3.7 mph.... minus a warm-up and cool down. From that day, I have not stopped. I now walk on the treadmill 2-3 times per week {45-50 min; run for .5 mi @5.3 mph; climb 10% grade for 3-4 min; avg 3.8-3.9 mph}; I do intermediate mat pilates once weekly and 2-3 weeks per week I have now added Jillian Michaels 30-day shred for strenght training. I will allow myself one day of exercise rest per week.

My Big Bang
It's not like I just woke up one day to realize I was a bit too "rounded". I didn't think "If I could just loose 10 lbs". I wasn't told by my doctor that I had to loose weight. I hadn't recently outgrown all of my clothes....
Instead, just like in the universe when spontaneous combustion occurs, there were so many things that finally put me on the end of the weight loss diving board. More things than I can begin to list. Except the very most important reason is that I decided to do it for me, myself and I.
On January 23rd, when I found myself on "the day", I started looking for the plan that would work for me. I read one blog, that lead to another blog and then onto another which in the end directed me to www.caloriecount.about.com.
Deep inside I knew that weight loss, health and fitness meant changing my eating habits. I didn't want to buy someone elses food. I didn't want to have to convert calories & data to points (why add one more thing!). I certainly wasn't interested in any drugs to help with my quest. I love to cook. My husband LOVES what I cook, as do my daughters (especially the one still living at home!). I knew my love for cooking would not change. So I knew that my intake of the food I cook would have to change.
Thats when I began counting... that very morning of January 23rd.
